Its name and stock trace back to the Jamdani and handloom weaving tradition of Dhaka, in what was undivided Bengal before Partition. Sources differ on the precise founding story: one account places the original shop's establishment in Dhaka in 1907, relocating to Kolkata in 1947 after Partition; another dates the Kolkata business to around 1945, founded by Netai Lal Saha. Over the decades the shop has become a recognized name in the city particularly for Durga Puja shopping and Bengali wedding trousseau sarees.
