Artisème

Artisème occupies the former Sala Terrena -- literally the garden lounge -- of the Grand Priory Palace (Velkopřevorský palác) in Prague's Malá Strana, a complex with architectural roots reaching back to the twelfth century, standing immediately beside the city's well-known Lennon Wall. Within that historic shell the gallery operates as a showcase for contemporary Bohemian and Czech design: handmade objects, glassware and craft pieces selected by specialist curators who draw from both established names and emerging designers active in the current Czech design market. The juxtaposition is deliberate -- the gallery's own description frames the space as "an oasis of peace and beauty," setting new, hand-produced work against centuries-old stone vaulting rather than a conventional retail interior. Beyond regular sales, Artisème also programs small cultural events, including exhibitions and installations, positioning itself as much as a curatorial platform for Czech design as a shop. It is recognized by Prague City Tourism and by the Homo Faber craftsmanship guide as one of the city's notable venues for contemporary applied design, sitting within the same Malá Strana cluster of craft-focused addresses that has made the district a recognized center for Czech decorative arts.
