What Awada is known for

An Argentine fashion label that began in 1953 as La Reinita, a children's clothing boutique opened by Abraham and Pomi Awada; it evolved into Awada womenswear in the 1960s and is now run by the family's Grupo Altatex.

Awada's origins trace to 1953, when Abraham Awada and his wife Pomi opened a modest children's clothing boutique called La Reinita, launched partly with fabric they received as payment-in-kind and a car Pomi won in a raffle. Through the 1960s, that small children's shop gradually transformed into Awada, shifting toward the tailored, minimalist womenswear the brand became known for under later generations of the family. The name later became more widely recognized in Argentina through Juliana Awada, Pomi and Abraham's granddaughter, who worked on the brand's design and image for years. Today the label operates as part of Grupo Altatex, a family holding company that also owns the Cheeky and Como Quieres brands and is led by Daniel Awada, Juliana's brother. The group has continued investing in domestic manufacturing, including a new production plant in Tigre, in Buenos Aires province, representing an investment of more than eight million euros. Awada now runs roughly a dozen stores across Buenos Aires city and province, alongside an online shop and a home-goods offshoot called Awada Market.
