Barkers was founded in 1972 by Raymond Barker, who opened his first store - originally called 'Raymond's' - on the corner of Victoria and High Streets in central Auckland, selling original designs rather than mass-manufactured stock. Raymond Barker sold the company in 2002 following a health scare, and the business changed hands again in 2006 to its current owners, Jamie Whiting and Glenn Cracknell. Now trading as Barkers, the retailer operates around 27 stores across New Zealand, from Auckland to Dunedin, alongside an online store, and has become an established name in New Zealand smart-casual menswear over more than five decades.
