BYBORRE

Amsterdam

What BYBORRE is known for

Amsterdam textile-innovation studio founded 2015 by designer Borre Akkersdijk and Arnoud Haverlag, producing programmable 3D-knitted fabrics on repurposed circular-knitting machines for clients including Nike, Adidas and BMW.

BYBORRE was founded in Amsterdam in 2015 by textile designer Borre Akkersdijk and digital strategist Arnoud Haverlag. Akkersdijk, who studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, had grown frustrated that he couldn't translate his textile designs directly into fabric, so he began experimenting with circular knitting machines originally built for mattress-cover manufacturing. Haverlag saw the potential to automate and systematize that process so structured, programmable textiles could be produced to order. The resulting studio designs and produces 3D-knitted fabrics with engineered structure, working with brands and manufacturers such as Nike, Adidas, and BMW, and with cycling brand Rapha on a technical-textile collaboration. The company positions itself less as a conventional fashion label than as a material-innovation lab bridging design, engineering, and manufacturing for programmable knit textiles.
