Cairo Coffee Collective

Cairo

What Cairo Coffee Collective is known for

Cairo Coffee Collective sources, roasts and brews specialty coffee, offering a Heritage Blend espresso subscription and Turkish coffee blends ground for ibrik brewing, alongside home brewing tools. The roaster frames its work around Cairo's long coffee-drinking tradition.

Cairo Coffee Collective was founded by brothers Ahmed and Omar Nazmi, who were born in Egypt, raised in Canada, and worked in oil and gas before leaving those careers for coffee. The idea took shape on a trip to Mexico, where Ahmed began learning the history and supply chain behind specialty coffee; after years immersing themselves further, the brothers concluded that the best coffee they could find in Egypt was what they brewed themselves, and built a roasting business around that gap. They source personally, traveling to origin including Ethiopia's Sidama region, and roast in Egypt for both a Heritage Blend espresso subscription and Turkish coffee blends ground for ibrik brewing. In 2021 they opened Specialty Būn as a client-facing cafe to prove the concept beyond the subscription model, and have partnered with local businesses including Breadfast and Ceramica; that year they also organized sanctioned brewing championships to help build a competitive coffee culture in Egypt. Their logo is designed to carry several meanings at once — a cup, a filter, the pyramids, and the Arabic word for ground coffee. The brothers frame their work around respect through the supply chain, wanting customers to see the labor behind each cup rather than treat coffee as a plain commodity.
