What Calarena is known for

Corsican swimwear label founded in 2004 by sisters Marie-Luce de Rocca Serra and Sandrine Piergigli of Porto-Vecchio; garments use a double-skin construction produced in a family workshop in Novara, Piedmont, Italy.

Calarena was launched in 2004 by sisters Marie-Luce de Rocca Serra and Sandrine Piergigli, from Porto-Vecchio in Corsica. The label started with cashmere sweaters inspired by the Corsican mountains before the sisters shifted toward swimwear reflecting the island's Mediterranean style. Production is not done in Corsica: the sisters partnered with a small family workshop in Novara, Piedmont, run by a mother-daughter team specializing in a 'double-skin' swimwear construction technique. Calarena now generates roughly half of its sales internationally.
