The shop is the project of Duangruethai Esanasatang, known locally as "Padd Candide," a writer, editor, and publisher who also serves as managing editor at Betweentheline Publishing. That editorial background shapes the inventory: rather than chasing bestseller lists, Candide stocks Thai-language fiction and nonfiction from small independent presses alongside translated titles Duangruethai selects herself, treating the shelves as a curated reading list rather than a general retail assortment. The bookstore-café format lets it double as a gathering point — Duangruethai periodically books a live jazz band to play among the shelves and hosts talks on subjects she considers relevant to the moment, extending the shop's role beyond bookselling into something closer to a small independent cultural venue.
