Coffee Break

Monte Sano / Hampton Cove, Huntsville, Alabama

What Coffee Break is known for

Founder David Lewis launched Coffee Break in 2023 in Huntsville's Monte Sano neighborhood, roasting small-batch beans to highlight their origin. It now roasts at The Grid in Hampton Cove and runs local Wednesday delivery alongside wholesale and classes.

Coffee Break started in 2023 as what founder David Lewis has called, in his own words, 'a social experiment' — a small-batch roaster set up in Huntsville's Monte Sano neighborhood rather than downtown. The roasting itself favors medium and light profiles chosen specifically to show where each coffee was grown, and the lineup's three bestsellers — Country Road, Singing River and Ground Control — have stuck since the early days. The operation has since added a roastery at The Grid in Hampton Cove, and now runs local Wednesday delivery across the Huntsville metro through a partnership with The Market Mule, alongside wholesale accounts and coffee classes for anyone who wants to learn the roasting side rather than just drink the result. Coffee Break also puts a portion of its visibility behind Huntsville institutions it counts as neighbors — Singing River Trail, the Land Trust of North Alabama, Greene Street Market, the Huntsville Food Hub, Bailey Cove Farmers Market, HAMR and the Huntsville Track Club — a list that reads like a map of the city's outdoor and food culture more than a marketing exercise. For a coffee this young, the throughline is consistency of source: three named blends, one neighborhood roastery, and a delivery route that hasn't outgrown its founding idea.
