Confiserie Hanselmann has occupied its purpose-built St. Moritz building since 1894, when founders Fritz and Theresia Hanselmann opened the confectionery, bakery and café together. Confiserie Hanselmann was founded around 1894 by Fritz Hanselmann and his wife Theresia, both from southern Germany, who had the building purpose-built in St. Moritz during the town's rise as a destination for sophisticated European travelers, including British alpinists. The business has passed through wars, deaths, marriages and shifting economic fortunes over more than 130 years, and is today run by the Mutschler-Hanselmann family in its fourth generation.
The building itself is notable for its sgraffito wall decorations — a traditional Engadine plasterwork technique — on its reddish relief exterior, and the shop's guest book has included figures such as the Aga Khan, Empress Soraya and writer Thomas Mann.
Hanselmann still combines a confectionery, bakery and café at its central St. Moritz address on Via Maistra, selling pastries, chocolates and gift vouchers both over the counter and through its online shop, open daily.
