Devout Coffee's own account of its start is specific: in 2011, the founders bought a barbecue off Craigslist, converted it into a coffee roaster, and began roasting in a garage. That home operation became a storefront on Niles Boulevard in Fremont, California, opening in December 2012 — the address, 37323 Niles Boulevard, is the same one the cafe operates from today. The business has since added a sister restaurant, Renegade Kitchen, a wholesale program supplying other retailers, and an online subscription called the Devoted Club. It also sells equipment from specialty coffee manufacturers directly through its site, extending beyond just roasted beans. Devout frames its approach around 'the finest quality coffee, perfecting the art of extraction,' with simple drinks meant to let customers taste coffee 'from incredible coffee farms located around the world,' though, as with many of its peers, it doesn't name those specific farms. One recurring seasonal detail: an eggnog cappuccino returns each December, a small but concrete example of the cafe's regular menu rotation rather than a one-off promotion.
