Empório Chapada Diamantina

Lucas -- known to customers as 'Lucas da Chapada' -- left Bahia's state capital after a vacation to the Chapada Diamantina highlands convinced him to relocate to Lençóis and build a shop around what the region actually produces. The mercado's shelves run on that premise: certified organic honey from native highland flowers, ground and whole-bean arabica grown locally, and jars of umbu jam made from the tart native fruit, alongside natural cosmetics, handmade ceramics and a line of printed shirts carrying the shop's own name. Everything ships nationwide from the Centro address on Rua da Baderna, with orders taken by phone and WhatsApp from 8:30 in the morning to 10:30 at night -- a schedule closer to a market stall's than a typical retailer's. It reads less like a souvenir shop trading on the Chapada's reputation than an attempt to move the highlands' actual pantry -- honey, coffee, fruit, craft -- onto a shelf and out to the rest of Brazil.
