Ewaffe Cultural Village

Ewaffe Cultural Village runs its main site in Naggalama, in Uganda's Mukono District about an hour from Kampala, with a second branch in Katabi, roughly fifteen minutes from Entebbe airport. Visitors take part in Buganda kingdom traditions rather than watching them from a distance: cooking demonstrations center on luwombo, a dish of meat steamed inside banana leaves, alongside fishing, dance, storytelling rooted in Buganda heritage, and hands-on barkcloth-making workshops, where the fibrous inner bark of the mutuba tree is beaten into the fabric once used for royal and ceremonial dress. Local artisans working at both locations produce the bark cloth, woven baskets, jewelry, and traditional instruments sold on-site, alongside coffee sourced from smallholder farmers. The village was named a World Tourism Day 2024 Cultural Experience Award winner. Pricing is structured for both international and local visitors: the full village experience runs $55 for international adults and $35 for children five to twelve, while the shorter Entebbe-branch sessions cost $25 for international guests, with separate rates listed in Ugandan shillings for residents. Between the two sites, Ewaffe functions as both a working craft market and a hands-on introduction to Buganda cultural practice.
