Jack Wolfskin was founded in 1981 by Ulrich Dausien as a trademark of the Frankfurt am Main company Sine, before being spun off as its own business. It opened its first own-brand retail store in Heidelberg in 1993, was sold in 1991 to US company Johnson Outdoors, and in 1997 its headquarters moved to Idstein, Germany, where it remains based today. Its Texapore membrane, a proprietary waterproof-breathable fabric technology, is the brand's signature material innovation. The paw-print logo is one of the most recognisable marks in the German outdoor-retail sector.
