What JKK Art Gallery Shop is known for
Retail concession inside Jawahar Kala Kendra's Museum block, Jaipur - 'The Gallery Shop by Play Clan,' opened January 2017 alongside the centre's refurbished galleries.
JKK Art Gallery Shop refers to the retail space inside Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), a state-run multi-arts centre in Jaipur designed by architect Charles Correa and completed in 1992. Correa's building follows a nine-square grid loosely based on the historic plan of Jaipur and the Navagraha (nine planets) of Vedic cosmology, and houses museum galleries, an amphitheatre, an auditorium, a library and artist studios. On January 20, 2017, JKK reopened a set of refurbished galleries in its Museum block; a dedicated retail concession branded "The Gallery Shop by Play Clan" opened in the same block at the same time, described in the centre's own press materials as a souvenir shop. JKK's public-facing galleries include the Contemporary Gallery, the Sukriti Gallery and the Surekha Gallery, which host a rotating programme of painting, sculpture and craft exhibitions; the centre is also described in visitor guides as a point of sale for regional handicrafts such as blue pottery and block-printed textiles alongside its exhibition programming.
