What JLindeberg is known for
Stockholm sportswear label founded in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, a former Diesel marketing director, who reworked golf apparel with slim cuts and bold color blocking; launched simultaneously in Stockholm and New York.
J.Lindeberg was founded in Stockholm in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, who had just resigned as marketing director of the Italian denim brand Diesel. According to the brand's own account, the idea took shape on a motorcycle trip through southern France with a golf bag in tow, after which Lindeberg concluded that golf apparel needed a genuine overhaul. The label launched simultaneously in Stockholm and New York in the summer of 1996, with Lindeberg as creative director leading a design team headed by Roland Hjort, recruited from H&M. Its first collection, billed as '21st Century Lifestyle,' was shown in New York during Fall/Winter 1997 fashion week, mixing menswear and golf clothing rather than treating them as separate categories. The brand became known for slim-fit cuts and bold color blocking at a time when golf apparel still leaned toward traditional country-club silhouettes. J.Lindeberg is today sold in more than 35 countries.
