What Kopenacamos is known for
Josefa Copena and Alfonso Valverde founded Kopenacamos in Nigran's Camos parish in 1920. The family bakery still hand-bakes its signature roscón sweet bread additive-free, a reputation that by the 1970s drew orders from across Spain.
Kopenacamos was founded in 1920 by Josefa Copena and her husband Alfonso Valverde in the parish of Camos, part of Nigran in Galicia's Val Miñor region. The bakery has stayed in family hands across generations since, with the current team describing its work as honoring "the essential values of the first recipes."
Its signature product is the roscon, a traditional sweet ring bread the bakery credits with an "incomparable texture and flavor," made without additives or dough improvers alongside a wider range of artisanal breads, pastries and cakes. By the 1970s the bakery's reputation had outgrown its home region, with tourists placing mail orders for its products from across Spain.
More than a century after its founding, Kopenacamos still operates from two locations in Nigran and Baiona, on separate winter and summer schedules, and supplies restaurants and specialty shops in addition to retail and home delivery.
