Křehký

Prague

📍 Újezd 414/13, 150 00 Praha 5, Czechia

What Křehký is known for

A Prague gallery and showroom presenting limited-edition and original contemporary Czech furniture, glass, lighting and objects. Founded in 2010, the Újezd showroom is currently available by appointment.

Krehky was founded in 2010 by Jana Zielinski and Jiri Macek with the explicit aim of reviving and extending a long tradition of Czech art-industry production -- glassmaking, porcelain, and studio furniture -- for a contemporary audience rather than treating it as a heritage craft frozen in period styling. The gallery's exhibition space, opened inside a former ham factory in Prague, presents a personal, curated view of contemporary design and domestic objects through rotating exhibitions alongside its own permanent collection. Krehky's working method centers on commissioning: rather than manufacturing a fixed catalog, the gallery invites designers from the Czech Republic and abroad to design objects specifically for production within traditional Czech manufactures, working in porcelain, glass, and wood, with each collaboration framed around a simple brief -- to create something the designer would be glad to give as a gift. The gallery has become a fixture of Prague's design calendar, featured at the city's international Design Blok festival and included in the Homo Faber craft-guide network, and drew early design-press attention -- Dezeen covered an exhibition, 'Heroes,' at the space in 2010 -- as one of the country's more consistent platforms connecting traditional manufacture with current design practice.
