L'Artisanerie

L'Artisanerie opened its doors on February 23, 2019, on Rue du Niger in Tunis, as a boutique-workshop built around a community of Tunisian artisans, designers and social entrepreneurs. The project grew out of work by the SHANTI association and its partners, with support from Oxfam, aimed at strengthening small networks of craftspeople and improving their position in the value chain that runs from workshop to retail.

The space works on two tracks: a showroom selling finished pieces that blend contemporary design with traditional Tunisian techniques, and a workshop offering co-creation and customization for bespoke objects, letting customers work directly with the makers rather than simply buying off a shelf. That structure reflects the shop's mission — it exists as much to give artisans a viable platform and fair footing as to sell craft objects to visitors.

For anyone interested in Tunisian design beyond the tourist-market souvenir stalls, L'Artisanerie is a considered starting point: a single address gathering makers who might otherwise be scattered across ateliers around the city, with the added chance to see or shape a piece being made rather than just buy the finished result.
