Magis

Magis was founded in 1976 by Eugenio Perazza in Motta di Livenza, then a small agricultural town in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Perazza named the company after the Latin word for 'more,' reflecting his stated aim of using industrial production, experimentation with new materials, and collaboration with outside designers to make furniture that offered something beyond ordinary output. The company built its reputation working with a roster of designers rather than an in-house style, commissioning names including Stefano Giovannoni, whose Bombo stool — a height-adjustable stool with a rounded, colorful plastic seat launched in 1997 — became one of Magis's most recognized and most widely imitated designs. The company's catalog since has spanned chairs, tables, storage, and outdoor furniture built around the same combination of industrial manufacturing technique and design-forward form. Magis remains headquartered in the Veneto region under the direction of its founder's original vision of production as a testing ground for new ideas rather than a fixed house style.
