Open since 1929, the Mercado Central fills a downtown block with hundreds of stalls selling Minas cheeses, cachaca, herbs, sweets and handicrafts under one roof. Its dairy-and-cachaca aisles alone run to dozens of vendors, making it the city's clearing-house for regional food and craft.
