What Methodical Coffee is known for
Founded in 2015 by three friends who began roasting within eighteen months, Methodical sorts its beans into Classic, Contemporary and Avant-Garde collections, pouring them at several Greenville, South Carolina cafés and a Travelers Rest roasting facility alongside tea and brewing gear.
Methodical Coffee started in February 2015, when three friends - David Baker, Will Shurtz and Marco Suarez - opened a single café in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, pooling complementary strengths in operations, roasting and design. The company was roasting its own coffee within eighteen months, and growth since has taken it from that first storefront to multiple Greenville locations - Downtown, Stones Point, Commons and a bakery - plus a café in Columbia at BullStreet, culminating in a move into a 40,000-square-foot roasting and training facility in Travelers Rest in 2023. The coffee itself is sorted into three collections by roast character - Classic, Contemporary and Avant-Garde - alongside single origins, limited releases and a house decaf, all built on what the company calls relationally sourced partnerships with producers, including farms working with regenerative practices like soil restoration and agroforestry. Cafés also pour a full tea program spanning black, green, white, oolong and matcha, and stock brewing gear and drinkware for customers building a setup at home. Methodical backs the coffee with real education - online classes, brew guides and video content - treating home brewing as part of the product rather than an afterthought, in keeping with a company built from the start on teaching, not just roasting.
