Mikazuki Shoten

Naoshima / Japan

📍 Naoshima, Kagawa, Japan

What Mikazuki Shoten is known for

Mikazuki Shoten is a takeout coffee stand on Naoshima, opened in April 2017 near the Benesse Art Site, pouring morning and evening house blends Asami and Yumi. It also sells original apparel made with regional artisans.

Mikazuki Shoten opened as a takeout-only coffee stand on Naoshima on April 20, 2017, run by an owner who goes by Suzu, near the island's Benesse Art Site gallery cluster. The stand keeps its pour list narrow and specific: a morning blend called Asami and an evening blend called Yumi, rather than a broad rotating menu.

Beyond coffee, the shop designs its own apparel -- t-shirts, hoodies, denim jackets, and caps carrying Japanese coffee-themed graphics -- made through collaborations with regional artisans, including local tanners, dyers, and textile makers who produce leather coasters and canvas bags for the shop. Mikazuki Shoten has also partnered with PAPLUS on eco-friendly cup packaging, and it operates a second space, Unominato Base, used as an event venue and a future retail concept still taking shape.

Having passed its fifth anniversary in 2022, the shop is now in its sixth-plus year on an island better known internationally for its museums than its coffee counters -- positioning itself less as a stop for a quick espresso and more as a small, artisan-collaborated retail concept built around two named house blends.
