Ocean Oracle Designs

Susan Marte spent 27 years living in Australia before moving to Block Island, Rhode Island, in March 2022, the same island where her Ocean Oracle project first began. The Ocean Oracle is a 45-card deck paired with a 32-page interpretation booklet, built around calm, natural photography (much of it shot on Block Island) layered with numbers, messages and meanings meant to support reflection rather than fortune-telling in the traditional sense; Marte describes the cards as tools for 'Remembrance' of a deeper sense of self.

Beyond the deck, her studio work spans monoprints and lino prints, she calls the lino-cutting process 'meditative and fun', plus acrylic and watercolor pieces, giclee prints of island landscapes captured in early morning and evening light, and functional goods like pillows and tea towels printed with her designs. Her stated approach favors minimal image manipulation, keeping the photography close to what the camera actually captured rather than heavily edited. The combination of a self-published divination deck and a working printmaking practice, both rooted in the same stretch of Rhode Island coastline, gives Ocean Oracle Designs a narrower, more personal footprint than a typical souvenir or gift shop.
