Papelaria Fernandes is one of Lisbon's oldest continuously operating stationery businesses, founded in 1891 by Joaquim and Artur Lourenço. Located in the Baixa neighborhood on Rua do Ouro, with additional entrance at Rua Vitória 41, the shop retains a well-preserved late-1920s facade of iron and glass while the interior was thoughtfully remodeled in the 1980s. The shop is known for its curated collection of premium notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals crafted with care. The upper floor showcases decorative cards, wrapping papers, packaging materials, and comprehensive art supplies. The main floor carries general stationery essentials alongside specialty items. Visitors consistently note the sensory experience—the scent of paper, ink, and craftsmanship. The staff are described as deeply knowledgeable and courteous. Papelaria Fernandes has expanded across multiple Lisbon locations, including a branch in the Chiado neighborhood.
