What Pawleys Island Hammocks (The Original Hammock Shop) is known for
The company traces its rope hammock to 1889, when riverboat captain Joshua John Ward wove a cooler, more comfortable alternative to canvas cots on Pawleys Island, and it still bills itself on "130 Years of Quality." Hammocks are hand-knotted from cotton or DuraCord rope on oak spreader bars, with pillows, stands, and porch swings made in the same Lowcountry workshops.
