Payote

Payote was founded in 2016 in Perpignan by entrepreneur Olivier Gelly, built around reversing the decline of French-made espadrilles. The brand designs from Perpignan and partners with a 150-year-old family atelier in Mauleon, a town in the French Basque Country widely regarded as the birthplace of the espadrille. Payote now offers more than 250 espadrille styles for men, women and children, including solid and patterned designs, platforms, mules and lined winter versions, using materials such as recycled cotton and natural rubber, and has run collaborations including with Harry Potter and rugby teams.
