Peugeot Saveurs

Peugeot Saveurs traces to 1810, when brothers Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot converted their father's grain mill in Franche-Comté into a steel foundry, initially producing saws, springs, and rolled steel rather than kitchenware. The company's first grinder, released in 1840, was a coffee mill rather than a pepper mill. The pepper mill line proper began in 1874 with the Z model, the first table pepper mill design the company sold; originally made in plain white china, it was later produced in silver-plated metal, Bakelite, and wood, and remains in production more than a century later, largely unchanged in mechanism. That grinding mechanism, a precision-machined steel mill designed to crush peppercorns evenly, became the basis of the company's reputation and is still manufactured in the Franche-Comté region. Peugeot Saveurs today makes salt, pepper, and coffee mills along with ceramic bakeware and wine accessories, continuing a production line with more than two centuries of history behind the original 1810 foundry.
