What Pierre-Louis Mascia is known for
Silk and print label launched in 2007 by Toulouse-trained illustrator Pierre-Louis Mascia, who studied traditional Japanese dyeing and papermaking before building collage-based scarf prints with Como's Achille Pinto textile house.
Pierre-Louis Mascia is a French illustrator, trained at l'École des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, who traveled to Japan to study traditional painting, dyeing and papermaking techniques before returning to Europe to work as a graphic designer. That early career included illustration work for Neiman Marcus and Galeries Lafayette, along with pieces published in Vogue US and Elle France, building the collage-based visual language that would later define his textile designs. He launched his own label in 2007 under the direction of the Uliassi brothers, who own the Como-based printing house Achille Pinto, a company with roughly nine decades of experience printing on silk and other fine textiles. The collection began with scarves built from layered, collaged patterns and has since grown into a full ready-to-wear line and a separate home-goods "Maison" collection, all built around the same allover collage printing technique applied to silk, wool and blended fabrics. Mascia describes himself as a draftsman rather than a fashion designer, treating each print as an illustration first and a garment pattern second.
