Raicilla Hacienda El Divisadero

Hacienda El Divisadero has operated as a raicilla distillery on the road between El Tuito and Chacala in Jalisco's Cabo Corrientes municipality since 1885, according to the estate's own account of its history. The property sits at kilometer 9 of that road, near the settlement of Las Guásimas.

Raicilla is a lesser-known agave spirit distinct from tequila and mezcal, traditionally produced along Jalisco's Pacific coast and in the surrounding sierra. El Divisadero distills single-varietal expressions from two wild agave types — agave cenizo and agave chico aguiar — as well as a blend of agave verde (Angustifolia) and agave amarillo (Rhodacantha). The estate describes its methods as rooted in ancestral, artisanal tradition, though it does not publish detailed technical specifications for each production stage on its main site.

The distillery offers guided tours of the hacienda grounds ("Recorrido en la Hacienda") and was featured in a Claro Video documentary series covering its production from field to still. Its raicilla has also received outside recognition: a Gold Medal at the 2021 Top World Spirit Awards.

Because raicilla remains a niche category compared with tequila or mezcal, multi-generation estates like El Divisadero are among the more visible sources for travelers seeking the spirit at its point of origin on Mexico's Pacific coast, rather than through broader retail distribution.
