Richard Mille

Richard Mille launched his own house in 2001, at fifty, with a brief he described as "a racing machine on the wrist" — and priced it beyond every established grande maison from day one. The RM 001's tonneau case, skeletonized movement and Formula 1 material science announced the whole program: titanium baseplates, carbon TPT, sapphire cases, watches engineered like chassis and costing like them.

The Nadal partnership made the thesis public: the RM 27 line, worn by Rafael Nadal through actual Grand Slam matches, weighs less than a strawberry and survives forehands measured in g-forces — luxury's most convincing durability demonstration. F1 drivers, sprinters and golfers followed, all wearing theirs in competition, all part of the R&D.

Production stays deliberately scarce — thousands of pieces yearly against millions of aspirants — from Les Breuleux, with cases by ProArt and partnerships with Audemars Piguet's movement specialists in the DNA. Richard Mille built the twenty-first century's first new haute-horlogerie superpower: no heritage, no apologies, all engineering.
