What Rosella Coffee Company is known for
Rosella Coffee has served San Antonio's hospital district since 2014, roasting through San Antonio Coffee Roasters, the city's oldest roaster since 1979. Its Vienna Roast espresso and Black Velvet cold brew anchor three hospital-adjacent locations.
Rosella Coffee opened in 2014 with a mission stated plainly on its own site: "taking care of people who take care of people." That is not marketing shorthand — the company's cafés cluster around San Antonio's hospital district, serving healthcare professionals, patients and families at some of the hardest moments they will have. Current owners Tom Schleuning and Julia Bates opened a third hospital-adjacent location in 2022, extending a format built specifically for people who don't have time for a leisurely coffee run.
The beans come from San Antonio Coffee Roasters, the city's longest-running roaster, in business since 1979 — a partnership that gives Rosella access to decades of local roasting experience rather than building a roasting operation from scratch. Three house blends carry the results: Vienna Roast, an espresso blend built around caramel and chocolate notes; Black Velvet, a cold brew leaning into cocoa and dark chocolate; and a Mexico Veracruz drip coffee with citrus and chocolate running through it.
An elevated grab-and-go food program, sourced through local San Antonio vendors, rounds out the counter — freshness and speed both treated as non-negotiable for a clientele that includes people running between hospital shifts.
