Sandqvist was founded in 2004 by three childhood friends - Anton, Daniel and Sebastian - who grew up together in rural Sweden before settling in Stockholm in the late 1990s. Anton Sandqvist, a mechanical engineer, began building backpacks in his Stockholm basement almost as a creative side project. Within a month his basement held the first hundred Sandqvist bags; within eighteen months the brand had grown into a small but reputable Swedish name stocked by around fifteen retailers nationwide. The design language draws on vintage outdoor packs and Swedish military gear, reworked with updated materials - waxed and coated canvas, leather trim, simple rolltop and flap-closure silhouettes.
