What Skinny laMinx is known for
Founded in Cape Town in 2008 by designer Heather Moore, Skinny laMinx grew from hand-screenprinted fabric into an international textile and homeware label. In early 2026, Moore stepped back from manufacturing to refocus on studio-based design work.
Skinny laMinx began in 2008, when Cape Town designer Heather Moore started screenprinting her own patterns onto fabric, in her words, 'just for fun.' The hobby grew into an international textile and homeware label, with Moore's graphic, mid-century-leaning motifs, birds, leaves, cut-paper shapes, appearing on fabric, cushions, aprons and tea towels sold from her own retail space and stocked by independent shops abroad, including a U.S. stockist relationship documented as far back as 2009.
In early 2026, Moore made a significant change to how the business operates: citing 'massive changes in exports to the US,' she stepped back from running the manufacturing side of Skinny laMinx and returned to her own studio to explore what she describes as 'a new expression for the playful, patterned energy' the brand built its name on. The company still maintains a retail presence at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, and Moore continues to design and share new work through her studio and social channels, even as the wholesale production model she ran for close to fifteen years is no longer the center of the business. For a label that grew out of one person's fabric hobby, the 2026 pivot is in some ways a return to that original, smaller-scale footing.
