What Sperry is known for
American brand since 1935, inventor of the original boat shoe — nautical lifestyle essential. In 1939 the US War Department specified Sperry Top-Sider as official Navy footwear and negotiated the right to manufacture the shoes for sailors; it became official casual-uniform footwear at the US Naval Academy. Sperry sold the business to United States Rubber Company in 1940.
