She works from a palette of certified organic, wildcrafted and biodynamic botanical essences, hydro-distilling and hand-blending small batches in-house, then aging them for a minimum of six months in a base of organic grape alcohol rather than synthetic fixatives. The company opened its retail boutique and perfumery on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California in September 2005. Balahoutis describes her method as narrative perfumery, building each scent around a place, person or scenario rather than a conventional fragrance brief.
