Thanksgiving Coffee Company

Joan and Paul Katzeff founded Thanksgiving Coffee Company in Fort Bragg in 1972, and the business has since built its identity around certification rather than roast style alone: Bird Friendly, organic and fair-trade coffees sit across the catalog, backed by B Corp status and a run of outside recognition that includes a Roast Magazine Roaster of the Year title, a Good Food Award, a Global Citizenship Award, and B Lab's Best For The World Community designation. The company sources through family-farm cooperatives rather than individual estate contracts, a structural choice that lines up with its Cause Coffees program, which the company states has raised more than $650,000 for partner organizations to date. That program runs alongside more conventional subscription offerings, including Roastmaster's Select, Single Origin and Dark Roast coffee clubs, and named coffees such as a Kenya Nyeri Peaberry, a Grey Whale Blend, a Guatemala Dark Roast and a Northern Italian Style Espresso, priced between $20 and $26. More than fifty years after its founding, the company still frames its coffee explicitly around social mission rather than treating certification as a marketing add-on to an otherwise conventional roasting business.
