The Cat's Miaou opened in February 2009 as an independent, husband-and-wife-run gift shop at 36 Elm Row in Leith, Edinburgh. The founders' mission centers on discovering handcrafted makers across Scotland and the UK, filling their shop with items "that spark joy." Their bestselling products are lovingly needle-felted animals (cats, dogs, foxes, owls, hares) created by Scottish artisans. Beyond felted goods, the shop stocks an eclectic range drawn from over 100 different suppliers: contemporary silver jewelry, cute baby clothes, tiny ceramic animals, bamboo clothing, scarves, mugs, tote bags, and more. The shop emphasizes Fairly Traded goods and Scottish heritage through candle collections featuring Caledonian Forest and Dusk On The Moor scents, alongside Harris Tweed products and highland cow keyrings.
