Totême

Stockholm, Sweden

What Totême is known for

Elin Kling and Karl Lindman's Stockholm house, founded 2014 — the T-Lock bag, scarf jackets and pared-back wardrobe staples with a French sensibility.

Totême was founded in Stockholm in 2014 by Elin Kling — the fashion journalist and one of the first true style bloggers — and her husband Karl Lindman, an art director trained on New York magazines. The premise was editorial: build the wardrobe Kling kept recommending and could never quite find — Scandinavian restraint warmed by French ease, pieces designed to recur, not to trend.

The signatures accumulated with unusual discipline: the scarf jacket, its collar draping into a built-in muffler, became the house's photograph; the T-Lock bag put a brass monogram on architectural leather; barrel-leg denim, sculptural knits and the embroidered-monogram tees round out what the founders frankly call a system rather than collections.

Stockholm headquarters, flagships from Mercer Street to London, and a customer who buys in multiples: Totême scaled the quiet way, profitably and without spectacle. It is Scandinavia's cleanest export since functional furniture — the wardrobe as well-designed object, restocked like one.
