Tragbar

Tragbar takes its name from the German word for "wearable," and since 2003 it has occupied a converted grocery store on Zenettistrasse in Munich, turning the space into a combined workshop and gallery for contemporary jewelry. The operation is run by three trained goldsmiths — Anne Gericke, Barbara Decker and Pura Ferreiro — who design and make their pieces on site rather than simply retailing work made elsewhere. Visitors can watch the craft happen in the open workshop before browsing the adjoining gallery, where each goldsmith's work is shown alongside the others'. The shared-studio model lets three independent makers pool a single storefront and set of equipment rather than each running a smaller operation alone, a structure common among Munich's small goldsmith ateliers clustered in the city's southern districts near the old slaughterhouse quarter. The shop favors small-batch, individually designed pieces over mass-produced jewelry, with an emphasis on craftsmanship customers can see demonstrated in person rather than take on faith from behind a display case.
