Ukr-Knyha Book Café-Bookstore

Odesa is one of Ukraine's most Russified cities, and for twenty years this Yevropeiska Street shop has run under the motto "Ukraine in Odesa, Odesa in Ukraine" as the region's leading vendor of Ukrainian-language history, philosophy, and cultural titles, drawing on more than 100 Ukrainian publishers. Beyond the counter, the store organizes author meetings, rural outreach visits, children's readings, and conversation clubs, and takes part in the annual Lypky Readings and the Ukrainian Book in Odesa forum as well as international literary festivals; roughly fifty contemporary Ukrainian authors had their first Odesa presentation through the shop. Its activity has extended into wartime relief work, including support for a Crimea-relocated maritime college's library and book distribution to soldiers. The café side keeps the format simple — a cup of coffee alongside new releases and academic and popular history titles, sold in-store or through the shop's own delivery. It is a rare combination in the region: a book-loving atmosphere built specifically around Ukrainian-language publishing, in a city where that selection has historically been hard to find, run for two decades as much as a cultural project as a retail one.
