Victorio & Lucchino

Victorio & Lucchino was built on a partnership that began in 1972, when José Víctor Rodríguez Caro (born in Córdoba in 1952, working name Victorio) and José Luis Medina del Corral (born in Seville in 1954, working name Lucchino) met while both employed at the Seville design company Disart. The two became partners in life and work, and in 1975 they formed their own label, initially to realize their own vision for elaborate wedding dresses rather than ready-to-wear.

The house stayed a regional name for nearly a decade before breaking out: their first formal collection showed in Barcelona in 1984 to strong reception, and just a year later they were presenting in New York. By 1987 they had shown at the British Designers Fair in London, establishing an international footprint for a label whose design language stayed rooted in Andalusia throughout — bright, saturated color, heavy use of lace, and the ruffled silhouettes associated with flamenco dress, reworked into couture and eveningwear. The pair's stature in Spanish fashion was later recognized with a dedicated museum devoted to their work. The brand continues to operate out of Seville, selling collections including bespoke ('A Medida') work and seasonal flamenco-influenced lines.
