Vinyl on Vinyl

Vinyl on Vinyl opened in Makati in 2009, starting out in a loft space at The Collective, an artists' hub on Malugay Street, as a shop dealing in vinyl records and art toys — the two things its name still refers to. In 2015 it moved to a larger space in the La Fuerza Compound on Chino Roces Avenue, a creative enclave that hosts several of Makati's independent galleries. Over time the shop expanded from records and toys into a program built around art forms that sit outside conventional gallery categories: pop surrealism, post-internet art, kinetic art, and underground and street art. Its founders describe the original goal as building international visibility for Philippine artists working in these peripheral genres, at a time when local institutions largely overlooked them, while giving local audiences access to international artists in the same scenes. The gallery still programs sound art and music-related events periodically, a nod to its origins as a record shop.
