Volt Coffee

Volt Coffee is a three-way partnership: owner Rob Salazar built out the food-and-beverage concept on Olive Drive, Quentin Stone — a partner at a local tax firm — handles operations, and Jacqueline Siefker, a UC graduate with years in the coffee business, runs the coffee side specifically. The pitch from the start was a beer garden built around coffee rather than a straightforward café: a permanent 24-foot trailer with an Italian pizza oven anchors the food side, rotating in and out with additional trailers so the menu changes even when the coffee bar doesn't, and ten taps pour local beer alongside the espresso and pizza. Salazar has described the intended atmosphere directly — somewhere people can grab a drink, a coffee or a beer, then carry it outside to whichever food trailer is parked that week and stay with friends rather than treating the stop as a quick transaction. Positioned for Davis's student population and its heavy cyclist traffic, Volt reads less as a coffee shop with food added on than as a beer garden that happens to open in the morning for espresso.
