Antonio Marras works from Alghero, on the northwest coast of Sardinia, and has spent his whole career refusing to leave — the island is not his backdrop but his co-author. Self-taught, born into a family of fabric merchants, he began showing under his own name in Paris in the late 1990s and built a house on Sardinian memory: fishermen's knits, widow's black, military cloth from the island's garrisons, all collaged into romantic tailoring with visible mending as ornament.

Fashion noticed the literary intelligence. From 2003 to 2011 Marras served as artistic director of Kenzo in Paris, translating his gift for cultural cross-stitch to another house's archive while keeping his own label anchored at home. The double life proved the point: the work travels precisely because it never pretends to come from nowhere.

Every Marras collection is a story with named characters — an aviator, an emigrant, a Sardinian bride — and the clothes carry the plot in patches, embroideries and layered prints. In an industry of moodboards, he remains a novelist working in cloth, and Alghero remains the address on every page.
