<p>Alberta Ferretti's house begins, literally, in her mother's dressmaking studio. Born in 1950 in Cattolica, on Romagna’s Adriatic coast, she grew up among eighteen seamstresses, opened her own shop — the Jolly Shop — at eighteen, and by 1976 had co-founded the Aeffe group with her brother Massimo in nearby San Giovanni in Marignano. The company grew into one of Italian fashion's quiet powers: on the Milan runways from 1981, later manufacturing for other designers, including the young Moschino and Jean Paul Gaultier.</p><p>Her own signature never moved from what those seamstresses taught her: the drape. Ferretti is fashion's chiffon whisperer — goddess dresses of layered silk, pleating and bias work that read as effortless precisely because they are technically merciless. In 1989 she launched a second line, renamed Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti in 1994, carrying the romance to a younger buyer.</p><p>The design studio has stayed in Cattolica while the showroom works from Milan — a split the house itself calls central to its identity. That is the real signature: an Adriatic atelier romance, industrialized just enough by Aeffe to dress the world without leaving home.</p>
