Armor Lux

Armor-Lux was founded in Quimper in October 1938 by Walter Hubacher, a Swiss textile engineer, with an initial focus on quality underwear manufacturing. The company later diversified into knitwear, including the striped wool and cotton sweaters worn by fishermen and sailors, which grew into the mariniere - the blue-and-white striped shirt that became the brand's signature and a broader symbol of French maritime style. The name itself blends 'armor,' the Breton word for sea, with a Latin root referencing light or brightness. Nearly ninety years on, Armor-Lux remains headquartered and manufacturing in Quimper, Brittany.
