What Boxpark is known for
Shipping-container retail and dining destination developed by Meraas along roughly 1.5km of Al Wasl Road, Dubai. Opened in 2015 using over 200 converted containers, housing about 45 independent shops, cafes and restaurants plus a Roxy Cinema.
Boxpark Dubai opened in 2015 as a retail and food-and-beverage development stretching along Al Wasl Road, built by Meraas — a Dubai government-linked developer — with its in-house design team, Studio M. The project's defining feature is its construction from more than 200 modified and insulated shipping containers, stacked and combined with precast concrete elements to form individual retail units and restaurant spaces along the strip. The concept follows an international trend of container-based pop-up retail, adapted here into a permanent fixture housing roughly 45 independent boutiques, cafes and restaurants, anchored by a Roxy Cinema location. Positioned between the Dubai Canal and Jumeirah Beach, the development has been credited with helping revitalize the surrounding Al Wasl corridor and giving small, independent retail and food concepts a foothold they might not otherwise afford in Dubai's larger mall developments. The venue reports roughly one million visitors annually.
