Bresciani

Calzificio M. Bresciani was founded in 1970 by Mario Bresciani, who drew on his experience in Italy's hosiery trade to open his own workshop rather than continuing to work for other manufacturers. The company is based in Spirano, in the province of Bergamo — despite the Bresciani name, which comes from the founder's surname rather than the city of Brescia. For its first decade the company mainly produced for other, larger fashion houses; it did not launch socks under its own Bresciani name until 1980. All Bresciani socks are hand-linked — finished by hand at the toe seam rather than machine-closed, a slower process associated with higher-end hosiery — and made from materials including Egyptian cotton, Australian merino wool, French linen, Himalayan cashmere and Andean vicuña. Mario Bresciani's sons, Massimiliano and Fabio, joined the business in the 1990s and expanded its distribution into menswear retailers internationally; the company modernized its branding and opened its own online shop in 2021.
