Buttero

Buttero was founded in 1974 by Mauro Sani in Stabbia, a town in Tuscany, and is now run by his children and grandchildren. The brand takes its name from the butteri, the Tuscan cowherds who traditionally worked the Maremma plains on horseback, and it draws its visual language from Italian saddlery and equestrian gear. Buttero's shoes, boots and sneakers are made locally by skilled Tuscan craftsmen using vegetable-tanned Italian leather. The specific leather most associated with the brand, known as Buttero leather, is a full-grain calf leather that is vegetable-tanned, dyed through, and hand-finished on the bench - produced since 1973 by Conceria Walpier in Castelfranco di Sotto, also in Tuscany.
